History
Henry Farm Center,
Inc., a full service
John Deere Dealership, was established by Lester Howard Killebrew
in 1969 after his graduation from Auburn University. The business
started in Abbeville, Alabama with a bank loan, two employees,
and a high school trainee, John Blankenship, who is now VP/General
Manager. Henry Farm Center now has three locations in Alabama,
employs approximately 80 people, carries varied lines of equipment,
parts and service and is one of the oldest, largest and most
knowledgeable irrigation dealerships in Alabama.
In 1983, HFC organized an
IBM Dealership with a ValCom (Inacom Corp) Franchise. ValCom franchises
were originally offered only to Valley Irrigation Dealers, which
gave HFC a ground floor opportunity and an ideal situation for
future growth. L. H. Killebrew seized that opportunity and opened
his first ValCom location in Abbeville and quickly opened the
first remote location in Auburn, Alabama. ValCom expanded to five
locations and employed approximately 45 people. Glenn Williams,
one of Valcom's first employees, is now VP/General Manager. ValCom
is now one of the region's oldest and largest IBM, Compaq and
HP dealerships. It has also grown to become one of the largest
and most dependable installers of computer networks.
In mid 2002 and early 2003, ValCom formed
ValCom Wireless. ValCom
Wireless is a multi-location dealership that sells SouthernLINC mobile
phones and radios. Alltel service was added in early 2006.
Locations exist in many local markets including Dothan and Abbeville.
Beginning June 26, 2006, Henry Farm Centers merged with
four other John Deere dealerships in southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia
to form SunSouth, LLC. ValCom
remains owned and operated by the entity of Henry Farm Center, Inc. and will
continue to do business under the name ValCom Business Center. You
will continue to experience the same great service and pricing from ValCom
that you have come to know. If you would like additional information
on the merger, please call 1-800-239-8399.
"To survive
in the pressures of the business environment today, you must
be the company that is the most responsive to your customer's
needs and you must have highly trained and dedicated employees.
ValCom Business Centers are viable today
because we have the best possible employees a business can have."
Lester H. Killebrew
